Want Repeat Customers, then Don't do this to Your Guests

A lot of hotel operators are getting bogged down by the current economic situation and hence they are willing to fill that hotel inventory by any means.A lot of online hotel booking engines like  expedia,hotels.com,hotwire or priceline are aware of this and will try to take advantage of this by wanting to sell good hotel rooms forcheaper rates and cheaper hotel rooms for even cheaper prices...but this is NOT the time to sell that room full of roaches and bedbugs !!

Check out this online article about Hotel Hazards and think again. Are you offering your guests what they are paying for or you are actually going beyond their expectations ? Ask yourself this question and  discuss this with your Housekeeping and Maintenance staff.

May be you ran pretty busy and didn't think about it..but it might be a good time to get some corners of hotel beds sanitized properly and get ready to summer season with a fresh minty smell. After all that economic meltdown of housing & financial industry,if you guests are trying to escape, treat them well and give them a reason to come back..as repeat customers will affect your business over years by word of mouth..both in a good way and hazardic way.

Hotel front desk is a very vital part of any hotel. The importance of front office can not be overemphasized since the services provided by it are often the only contact the guest has with the hotel’s staff and can break or make the connection.Front office functions include :

  • Processing room reservations over the phone, internet or in person
  • Processing room assignments to reservations and walking guests
  • Handling guest and hotel mails, faxes, phone calls, baggages and delivering messages
  • Handling guest complaints and resolving to fullest satisfaction of guest
  • Making sure every guest staying or visiting the hotel receives excellent service.
To deliver successfully on these types of duties that are very very important, front desk staff must be competent, responsible, mature, good communicator, pleasant and courteous to execute each function and delivering the best impression to the hotel guest and visitors.

Front office also has responsibilities that are not visible to the guest like :
  • overseeing payroll
  • preparing daily reports and run the audit reports
  • coordinate ordering, stocking and usage of supplies
  • controlling cost and supplies(breakfast,housekeeping & maintenance),
  •  utilizing the reservation systems to the best possible way to benefit hotel as well as guests
  • coordinating hotel room availability for repairing any maintenance requests
  • handling security of guests, hotel property and staff along with security department
The front office operations are one of the busiest and complex at times and management need to be aware of the demands and scope from staffing and guest experience point of view.

Why people need Hotels

If you are in US where I am,you would have stayed in hotels in your lifetime atleast once, either for Business or Pleasure.Atleast before coming to US from India,I alwasy thought of hotels as a place that kinda caters food items (what most call as restaurants here) but others also call it lodging facility or 'lodge' or 'bed and breakfast'.But nowadays, hotels can be part or 'all of it'.What I meant is a hotel can be:

  • just a place to crash at night
  • a place to crash with some entertainment (tv with cable/movies etc)
  • a place to 'hang out' for few hours (away from society..your sexual affairs
  •  a place to 'engage' in unlawful activities(drugs, mirujana etc)
  • a place to use on extended stay basis (job relocation,no other housing etc)
  • a place to stay for out-of-state/town visit (coz you don't have anybody that u can stay with)
  • a place to stay for out-of-state/town visit (coz even though u know somebody, its good for all to not stay with them)
  • a place to carry business meetings in hotel conf.room (and stay at same place for convenience from traffic and other chaos..to focus on work)
  • a place to spend vacation / to have some more fun
  • a place to do all/some of the above activities on a 'luxurious' scale
Its not obvoius to mention this puts all hotels in a type of category, like 1 star hotel, 2 star hotel, 3 star and so forth upto 7 stars (what !!! All I heard my life was that its only supposed to be 5 star...but you are wrong folks..the hotel in Dubai,UAE called Burj-al-arab is 7-stars.I am sure everywhere in the world, there is a system of this type for every hotels and whats it used for.
  • Keep reading more about what every 'star' has to offer.
